Timing is running out...

Timing is running out for Olivia at the Lakewood Animal Shelter. She's been waiting for her new family for the past month. Unfortuately, the shelter only has 10 cages and they are unable to keep cats for an unlimited amount of time. Olivia is outgoing, loves catnip, and would fair well as an indoor outdoor cat. Ask for collar 150.

Puppies for adoption

Fortunately five puppies found furever homes today, but three boys remain at the shelter for adoption.

Adoptions are always low - only $35. The shelter will work with the new owners post-adoption to set up neuter appointments. Unfortunately due to limited resources and kennel space, they're unable to alter the dogs prior to adoption.

Ray of Light. Meet Sunshine.

Sunshine was abandoned by her owner with her littermate in crate behind the Bi-Rite grocery store about two weeks ago.  Someone rescued her littermate, Cosmo outside, but we have not been able to reunite the two. Sunshine, collar 174, spayed declawed female - outgoing and very overweight.

Help us save lives.

Another week, another critical healthcare issue for our shelter! Many of the cats that find themselves living at our shelter have been abandoned or neglected and come to us with various stages of infection and illness.

On Friday, June 28, a sweet calico cat, named Merida, went into labour. Unfortunately the young Merida was in serious distress, her first kitten became stuck in the birth canal and sadly didn't make it. CCLAS rushed her to the animal hospital, where they performed an emergency c-section, because a second kitty was also stuck and feared dead. Mama was in a lot of pain, but her and her four kittens survived the surgery. Now in foster care, mama has been in and out the hospital with an infection. To make a donation toward Merida's medical bill, visit http://www.cclas.info/vetcare.html.

Poor Blossom, collar 144, was found living in deplorable conditions with her days-old kittens. After just a few days at the shelter, Blossom had to be rushed to the animal hospital with a raging infection in her uterus from giving birth in a filthy environment. The infection caused a high fever which needed to be monitored around-the-clock for several days. Sadly, neither of her kittens survived. Blossom is currently building her strength in foster care; once she is spayed, she'll be placed for adoption.

Three separate litters of kittens were brought to the shelter on different occasions, suffering from worms and upper respiratory infections.

Since May, CCLAS has had to admit 20 cats and kittens to the animal hospital. Most of these required overnight stays and observation. Vet bills are expensive – WE NEED DONATIONS TO HELP COVER OUR BILLS. With your help, CCLAS can continue providing life-saving treatment to Lakewood's cats and kittens. Donate today!

URGENT: Shelter is full! 19 cats up for adoption. Only 12 cages.

The Lakewood Animal Shelter is at FULL CAPACITY with cats and kittens available for adoption. CCLAS has placed several of the adoptable cats in foster homes to free up cages at the shelter, but what we really need is to find homes for these sweet animals THIS WEEKEND. All adult cats at the shelter or in foster care are only $15 this Friday and Saturday! Everyone available for adoption has been either spayed or neutered, received an initial vaccination plus treated with flea prevention medicine.

Amazing cats like Hera, Quincy, Martha, Lizzy and Trouble are waiting for their furever homes...but they can't wait forever! Stop into the shelter between noon and 4:00 p.m. or visit our Adopt-A-Pet album, to see our current list of adoptables. Can you, or someone you know, rescue one of these felines, or maybe offer up a foster home?

Emergency c-section for a mama kitty

On Friday morning, a sweet tabby cat at the shelter went into labour.

Unfortunately the young adult cat was in serious distress, her first kitten became stuck in the birth canal and sadly didn't make it. CCLAS rushed her to West Park Animal, where they performed an emergency c-section, because a second kitty was also stuck and feared dead.

Mama was in a lot of pain, but she and her four kittens survived the surgery. The family of five will be transferred to foster care this week.

Please visit http://www.cclas.info/vetcare.html if you would like to make a donation toward their surgery and post-op expenses. We encourage you to like us on Facebook, to follow along with their care. #1lkwd #sheltercat
