On the Way to Recovery, George is Looking for a Home for Valentines Day!

George was brought down to the shelter, neutered and declawed. When he came in, he had several large abscesses on his tail and hind legs from bite wounds probably sustained during a fight with another cat. He went to the vet to have his abscess cleaned up, he was such a mess! Poor George had to be put under anesthesia just to clean up his tail and hind legs. After a night in the hospital, he was ready to go into foster care. He's calm and friendly, and a wonderful houseguest! Now, he's just waiting for a new chance at a fur-ever home! Would do best in quiet, low-key home.

Abandoned in an Apartment, Wendy hopes for a Second Chance!

Poor little Wendy was found in an abandoned apartment last week. The landlord believed she was on her own in the apartment for up to a month! Safe at the shelter, and glad to have food and water, Wendy can't wait for someone to give her a permanent, comfortable home! Very friendly with people, loves attention, but can be sassy at times if you ignore her.

Francis is one of the most lovable talkative stray cats we have ever met.

This fellow has been living on streets for almost a year now. We've never seen him hunt or be aggressive toward other animals or humans. He would prefer the lifestyle of being a lap-cat in someone's home. He loves to eat, roll around, and chat.

He's neutered, ear tipped, received his initial vaccination, including his rabies, and was treated with Revolution. He's all black with a white spot on his chest and green eyes. Remember Peppa and Pippa? The pair of young black cats with stunning green eyes that were found in a taped up cardboard box in a Lakewood parking lot. It was almost too late for his sister, Pippa, but both cats recovered nicely while at the shelter and were eventually adopted out separately. Here's a link to their original post:

As the year ends, we have been reaching out to some of our adopter and we were so excited to hear back from Peppa (now Sumo.)

Dear CCLAS,

Thank you very much for taking care of me during my time of need. I am so happy in my new home. I get to climb a really tall kitty condo and sit in a perch atop my scratching post. I also have a cozy spot near the window, so I can watch the neighborhood and the animals. I have a ton of toys to play with, but my favorite toys are the little colored mice. They are fun to carry around the house in my mouth. I especially like it when my family plays catch with me. I can catch the mouse with both paws! I also play chase with my mommy and my kitty sister. We have a lot of fun. At mealtime I always need to sit and then speak, and then I get to eat tasty food. My family likes to snuggle with me and give me kisses. I love it.

According to his new owner, Sumo (Peppa) is doing really well, despite being EXTREMELY shy for several months! He makes a distinctive meow when he wants to play, which is quite often! He loves to play chase with his owner and their other cat. Evening are spent just hanging out with everyone at home. They decided to adopt Sumo (Peppa), because they have another rescue cat that looks identical to Sumo (Peppa) and was found in the same area. They get along quite well. :)

Handsome Sumo was very shy when he first came to his new home and preferred to nap hidden in cupboards and under beds. Day by day he grew more comfortable and sociable. Now he can typically be found sprawling out in the middle of the floor of any room of the house or playing with his adopted sister, Tumi. He loves to play catch with his mouse toy: he will climb to the top of his cat tree and, when the mouse is tossed up to him, he will either catch it with both paws or bat it back down. Sumo has a very sweet demeanor and is a wonderful addition to the entire family!

CCLAS is so happy to hear that Peppa was adopted into a loving home. We also learned that he's still getting adjusted to wearing his collar, but is micro-chipped now!

These two young critters were unceremoniously left outside when their previous owner moved. Full of determination and spunk, these two don't seem to mind as long as they've got each other! They play with, comfort, and groom each other like an old married couple They each look for the other when separated and they're always happy to see each other again. Orange tabby Alice is mild mannered, social, and purrs when you hold her, and black-and-white fuzzball Alphie is playful and curious.

Abandoned by her owner, Chelsea is hoping for a second chance. Update- Adopted!

How could someone abandoned her? Left behind when her owner moved, Chelsea has been resting comfortably, but is lonely at the Lakewood Animal Shelter. She's definitely one of best looking medium-hair tabby cats we've ever seen with Maine-Coon like features. She has extremely soft fluffy fur, is already spayed and declawed.

Her hobbies include sleeping, purring, rolling around on her back, and being a ham for attention!

Poor Chelsea was recently diagnosed with a treatable Urinary Tract Infection. Luckily CCLAS was able to take her to see a local veterinarian and she's now is back on the road to recovery. Do you have room in your home and heart to help Chelsea? If you're interested in her, contact the Lakewood Animal Shelter and ask for collar number 324. She must remain an indoor-only kitty, since she is declawed. CCLAS highly recommends microchipping your pets.

Donations needed to help pay for Laurel's medical expenses!

Donations Needed! Laurel, our little foster kitten ingested some string, and was rushed to the Lakewood Animal Hospital on Wednesday. He stayed overnight for observation. Hopefully, he was able to pass it without surgery.

His vet bills added up to over $600 from a rushed late-night visit to the West Park Animal Hospital followed by an overnight stay at the Lakewood Animal Hospital. We are eternally grateful for the veterinarian care he received!

Warren was found wandering the streets, neutered and declawed. When he came in, he had several large abscesses on his neck from bite wounds probably sustained during a fight with another cat. He went to the vet to have his abscess cleaned up, he was such a mess! He went on antibiotics, was put him into a foster home, and he's absolutely thriving. He looks really funny with parts of his neck shaved. Now that his wounds are healing, he's really friendly and he gets along well with other cats.

As many of you know, Lakewood has received a $13K grant from PetSmart Charities to implement a pilot TNR (trap neuter return) program in the Bird Town area. The purpose of this program is humanely manage the cat overpopulation program in this area and we're very thrilled that PetSmart has awarded this grant to our community.

There will be a meeting on THURSDAY, AUGUST 11, AT 7PM AT THE MADISON BRANCH OF THE LAKEWOOD LIBRARY to discuss this program, how you can get involved and to answer any questions.

There is a separate task force leading this effort, not CCLAS. They hope to have as much support as possible and you do not need to be a Lakewood resident to assist.

It's almost here! CCLAS will host its seventh annual 'Hair of the Dog' Happy Hour and Silent Auction on Thursday, May 19th from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. at the Avenue Tap House in Lakewood. (Wow... adopted LAS pooch Tink is so excited, she's sporting her Bill Cosby sweater!)

Once again, dozens of Lakewood and Cleveland-area businesses and have generously donated items and services for auction, including tickets to Cleveland sporting events, live shows, restaurant and spa certificates, local art, tons of pet-friendly products and much more! The event features local comedian Mark McKenzie (Last Call Cleveland) as emcee, DJ entertainment, food and an OPEN BAR (domestic/well). As always, 100% of the proceeds will benefit the animals in the community of Lakewood and allow us to continue our low-cost spay and neuter program.
