Another week, another critical healthcare issue for our shelter! Many of the cats that find themselves living at our shelter have been abandoned or neglected and come to us with various stages of infection and illness.

On Friday, June 28, a sweet calico cat, named Merida, went into labour. Unfortunately the young Merida was in serious distress, her first kitten became stuck in the birth canal and sadly didn't make it. CCLAS rushed her to the animal hospital, where they performed an emergency c-section, because a second kitty was also stuck and feared dead. Mama was in a lot of pain, but her and her four kittens survived the surgery. Now in foster care, mama has been in and out the hospital with an infection. Poor Blossom, collar 144, was found living in deplorable conditions with her days-old kittens. After just a few days at the shelter, Blossom had to be rushed to the animal hospital with a raging infection in her uterus from giving birth in a filthy environment. The infection caused a high fever which needed to be monitored around-the-clock for several days. Sadly, neither of her kittens survived. Blossom is currently building her strength in foster care; once she is spayed, she'll be placed for adoption.

Three separate litters of kittens were brought to the shelter on different occasions, suffering from worms and upper respiratory infections.

Since May, CCLAS has had to admit 20 cats and kittens to the animal hospital. Most of these required overnight stays and observation. Poor Grady

Poor Grady, collar 100, was admitted to Westpark Animal Hospital today, with a lingering URI. He's also dehydrated, thin with conjunctivitis.

Dr. Nicole is hopeful that he'll make a full cover after some TLC medical attention.
